CSI Ingenieros was hired to conduct a study to improve the quality of life of the people affected by floods occurring in this basins due to the lack of capacity of the existing drainage system.
The basins under study had a total extension of 1,500 hectares. They are a central area, consolidated in the city of Montevideo (Uruguay). The sewerage in the area was built at the beginning of the XX century and it doesen´t have the capacity to drain rainfall generated in the basin, thus causing important floods in several places, affecting a total of 1935 houses.
Detailed engineering for the first stage works comprised: 5 closed lamination tanks ranging from 2,000 to 13,000 m, as well as their corresponding connections (950 – pumping lines), the reinforcement of 220 m of an existing collector with a closed rectangular section.
The detailed engineering comprised:
- Assessing alternatives considering a piping reinforcement and retarding the inflow.
- Choosing the most suitable alternative that would allow for solving the biggest rainwater drainage issues.
- Defining the first stage of work for the chosen alternative and executing the works according to the detailed engineering drawings.
