On board marine mammal monitoring, searching, observation and registration in the WG Tasman vessel so as to reduce the risk of injuries and disturbances to marine mammals caused by offshore seismic activities.
MMOs in charge act both as observers and decision-takers of the required mitigation measures of seismic activities in case a marine mammal is detected. In addition, they advise the crew on the procedures established in the JNCC guidelines, while ensuring the monitoring plan is carried out according to the established guidelines. During night hours, or in low-visibility days, mammals are monitored by hydrophones submerged at different depths.
